Low-THC cannabis prescriptions are strictly governed by Texas law. Under the Texas Compassionate Use Program, as expanded by House Bill 46 (effective September 1, 2025), a prescription may only be issued to patients diagnosed with a qualifying condition.

How The Texas Program Works
Texas does not issue medical marijuana cards. Eligible Texas residents are entered directly into the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT) by a registered physician, and the prescription itself serves as the patient’s legal access — there is no state application, registration fee, or card to purchase. All formulations are low-THC as defined by Texas law — capped at 10mg of THC per dose — and smoking is prohibited. Available formulations include oral products, tinctures, topicals, patches, and physician-directed inhalation devices approved under state rules. Prescriptions are written for up to a 90-day supply at a time and are refillable for up to a year, with follow-up visits to adjust your treatment along the way.
